The essentials
One connection unlocks all 64 Wi-Fi quests and the 23 special guests at once. Today: the AltWFC fan server on DS and 3DS (one connection a day), or on PC DQVC at home, offline. A new game must connect again.
The questions that keep coming up in the “dlc-help” channel of The Quester's Rest Discord (the Discord's other questions: FAQ). Answers read in the game code when possible; otherwise the community's, marked as such.
What does a connection give?
- All at once: the 64 Wi-Fi quests (no. 121 to 184) and the 23 special guests, plus 6 items in the shop and Sellma's news. Nothing to pick.
- The quests and guests are already on the cartridge: the server only sends their numbers (original 2014 file, decoded).
- When: as soon as Sellma stands at her counter in the Stornway inn, i.e. from Alltrades Abbey on. No best time: the quests can be done whenever you like.
How to get it today?
- DS or 3DS: the AltWFC fan server. In the game's Wi-Fi connection settings (title screen, not the 3DS settings): “Auto-obtain DNS” to No, primary DNS
172.104.88.237, secondary167.86.108.126. Access point on 2.4 GHz, no password or WEP: a router guest network, or an Android hotspot with security “None”. iPhone: “Maximize Compatibility” worked for one member. Step by step: the Discord's “dlc-access” channel. - PC with melonDS: recent versions connect to the fan server by themselves (according to the Discord). Or DQVC at home: no internet, all 52 weeks.
- Other emulators (DraStic, RetroArch, handhelds…): if they find no access point, the save editor dqix.github.io/editor unlocks everything (“dlc” section). The community advises against Action Replay codes (quests in progress get stuck).
- Multiplayer: yes for the Wi-Fi quests (tried on 5 Oct 2026). A player who visits a host who has them goes home with them (“You brought back new quests from your visit to …!”): on the way back, the game keeps the quests unlocked during the visit. Special guests and the shop do not carry over (according to the community).
The “Wi-Fi quests” Action Replay code: what it breaks
- The circulating code (SELECT button) does unlock the 64 quests, but it writes whole bytes into the quest table (4 bits per quest: 2 state bits, 1 “unlocked” bit) and overwrites the neighbours. Read in the code: the 64 Wi-Fi quests go back to “never offered” (a Wi-Fi quest in progress is lost), quest 2 “Pleased as Punch” is marked turned in without being done, and quests 117 “Engaging the Sage” and 120 “Your Time to Shine” go back to “never offered”. Hence the “stuck quests” the community reports: prefer the fan server, DQVC at home or the save editor.
The other Action Replay codes going around
- “Quick Message Speed” (
52066A68 1AFFFD1E→EAFFFD1E): it turns a conditional jump in the text display loop into an unconditional one (all the text at once). It does nothing on the US ROM studied here: the targeted instruction is 16 bytes higher; the code was written for another version of the game (not the Japanese one either: the instruction is not there). - “Maniac Runner” (D-pad or stylus): it rewrites three of the hero's walking settings every frame. With the D-pad: top speed ×1.65, acceleration ×3.4 and animation ×2; with the stylus: acceleration ×1.8, the rest normal (the game rewrites the top speed itself at every step). Companions follow with their own settings. It only touches the live memory, not the save.
Common error messages (from the channel)
- 51099, “unable to find a compatible access point”: the access point is on 5 GHz or uses WPA2 / WPA3. Set it to 2.4 GHz, no password.
- 20110, “service discontinued”: the console isn't using the fan server's DNS. Check both addresses, delete the other saved connections, turn off and on again.
- “Settings are invalid”: set in the 3DS menu instead of the game's, or an address mistyped.
Only one connection a day?
- Yes: the game keeps the date given by the server and refuses a new connection before the next day, 8:00 GMT (code read, overlay 31). Nothing to do on a real console; DQVC at home lifts the limit.
Does the shop change?
- On the fan server, no: it always serves the same sale, “Second-Chance Exclusives” (week 42), the only file kept from Nintendo's servers. Each connection draws 6 items at random from its 24.
- With DQVC at home, the 52 weeks go by (one per hour): every DQVC item can be bought, including those found nowhere else. An item's card gives its weeks; full schedule: DQVC.
New game: connect again?
- Yes. What the connection unlocks is stored in the save, and the game resets the DQVC when a save is created (code read). A new game starts with no Wi-Fi quests and no special guests.
Special guests: are 30 canvassed guests needed?
- For one piece only per celebrity. Each gives their outfit in five parts: on arrival in the royal suite, on the hero's birthday (console clock date = profile birthday), when the inn reaches rank 6 (30 guests present), when the hero is in the character's vocation (18 of 23), and after winning the Innies (quest 157, “Inn for a Penny, Inn for an Inny”, 8 characters). Details: Special guests.
- The rank goes up one step at a time and never goes down: once at rank 6, guests can be sent away.
Must the 30 guests be different?
- Yes. The game refuses a guest already among the 30. It recognises them by an ID drawn at random when the save is created (date, time, console address and counter), sent to other players. Canvassing the same save 30 times counts once; each new game on the 2nd console counts as a new guest.
- Checked in game (5 Oct 2026, two melonDS windows): the same guest a 2nd time is refused; the same save with another ID is accepted.
- Fill the inn without playing 30 games (PC): copies your save to the 2nd melonDS window's save (
.sav.2, see Local multiplayer) with a new ID. Each round: run the program, open the same ROM in the 2nd window (File → Open ROM), “Continue”, then canvass with Erinn in both windows. Your own save is untouched; a profile must exist (Misc. → Profile Settings). - After a canvass that brought guests, Erinn refuses another one (“I need to get the rooms straight again”) until you leave the inn lobby: going out and back in is enough, sleeping is not (code read, checked in game). Up to 3 guests per canvass.
- Canvass the same player again: send their guest away with the guest register, then canvass again: the game only compares with the 30 guests present (from the Discord FAQ, confirmed by the code).
- “1000 canvasses”: that's the Celestial Salesperson accolade (1000 holiday packages sold), not an inn requirement.
This encyclopedia describes the American and European versions. The Japanese version was compared in its ROM: six quests, three of which unlock a vocation, ask for more wins there (Game versions).
