4. Coffinwell and the Quarantomb
Dr Phlegming met (Coffinwell)
- Optional: Stella wants to check the Starflight Express in the pass again; it still won't fly.
- Go through the checkpoint north-east of Stornway and head north: Coffinwell is in the north-west of the region.
- Go up to level 2 of the big house in the north of town: Mayor Laria asks you to see Dr Phlegming. In the north-westernmost house, the bedridden lady (Catarrhina, the doctor's wife) leads you to his study just east of it: talk to Dr Phlegming.
The game's own summary
Your hero and Stella headed back to the pass to see if the Starflight was working yet, but it wouldn't fly. Stella told your hero that if he helped more people, the Almighty would help them, so she has suggested they see what they can do beyond the newly opened checkpoint.
Arriving in Coffinwell, your hero found a mysterious disease gripping the town. Mayor Laria has asked him to visit Dr Phlegming, who is deciphering old manuscripts in an attempt to find a cure in his house to the west.
Arriving in Coffinwell, your hero found a mysterious disease gripping the town. Upon meeting with Dr Phlegming, your hero has learnt that the cause of the disease is a contagious blight that was until now sealed in a shrine.
Quarantomb key given to Dr Phlegming
- The doctor knows where the disease comes from: a plague sealed in a shrine. Tell Mayor Laria: he gives you the Quarantomb key and asks you to escort the doctor.
The game's own summary
Having reported the cause of the disease to Mayor Laria, your hero has been given the key to the Quarantomb, and asked to escort Dr Phlegming there. Stella thinks that ridding the town of the disease will secure the benevolessence necessary for your hero to get his Celestrian powers back.
Your hero has been asked to escort Dr Phlegming to the Quarantomb, which lies to the west of Coffinwell. The doctor has informed your hero that he'll meet him there.
Ragin' Contagion defeated (Quarantomb)
- See Dr Phlegming again, then go to Quarantomb, west of Coffinwell: he waits for you there. The monsters hit much harder than outside.
- An inscription speaks of the sages' crimson and blue light: press the button on the staff of both sage statues (a red one and a blue one, north-east and north-west) to open the doors with the red and blue jewels.
- In the middle, the plague's jar is broken: when the doctor reaches for it, the Ragin' Contagion appears.
The game's own summary
Your hero travelled to the Quarantomb as Dr Phlegming's bodyguard, and together they discovered that the jar used to seal the contagion away was broken. With the intention of repairing it, Phlegming reached out to pick up the jar, but his actions caused the Ragin' Contagion to appear.
Your hero managed to defeat the Ragin' Contagion in the Quarantomb, sealing it away once more in the jar that Dr Phlegming had repaired. Phlegming has told your hero to report back to Mayor Laria while he stays put to investigate further.
Back in Coffinwell after the Ragin' Contagion
- The demon is sealed again. The doctor stays to explore: go back to Coffinwell alone and tell Mayor Laria.
The game's own summary
Returning to Coffinwell to inform the Mayor about the defeat of the contagion, your hero found out about the death of Dr Phlegming's wife, Catarrhina. Though he knew of her passing, Phlegming was not at the funeral.
Dr Phlegming joins the party
- Catarrhina, the doctor's wife, has died; the doctor won't come to the funeral. Rest at the inn.
- At night, Catarrhina's ghost waits near the graveyard: she gives you the code only the couple knows. Knock on the door of the doctor's study (locked from the inside) with this code: he opens and agrees to come out with you.
The game's own summary
The ghost of Catarrhina appeared to your hero and asked him to help cheer Dr Phlegming up. Using the couple's secret knock, your hero was able to get in to see the doctor, who then asked for help in finding out what the people of Coffinwell wanted to say to him.
Coffinwell cured (the next morning)
- Dr Phlegming is in your party: go round the townspeople with him (houses in the east, the west, then the inn). Their thanks help him through his grief; Catarrhina's ghost goes to heaven.
- Sleep at the inn: the next morning, Coffinwell is cured.
The game's own summary
Having been thanked by so many of Coffinwell's inhabitants, Dr Phlegming finally found a way to overcome the loss of Catarrhina. Seeing this, Catarrhina's ghost was able to ascend contentedly to the heavens.
Back at the Observatory (Apus Major)
- Stella thinks you've got your powers back: go back to the Mountain Pass. The Starflight Express takes off and brings you to the Observatory.
- On level 2, report to Apus Major. Stella goes her own way.
The game's own summary
Having made so much benevolessence by curing the people of Coffinwell and putting Catarrhina to rest, Stella is convinced that your hero must have had his Celestrian powers restored. The two of them have set out for the mountain pass, hoping to finally get the Starflight Express airborne.
No longer grounded, the Starflight Express carried your hero back to the Observatory, where he reported events in the world below to Apus Major. Apus Major has suggested that praying to Yggdrasil might restore your hero's wings and halo, and meanwhile, Stella has gone on her way.
