DQ9 EncyclopediaRare drops (map method)
With the map method, the treasure map menu sets the monsters' randomness (table A) to a known value. End-of-battle drops come from that same randomness, so you know at which rolls a rare item drops. The game's exact calculation, done in your browser.

Maps that give two items in a row (chest then steal) between the searched rolls, earliest first. All 32,768 maps are tried.
How it works
- Opening the treasure map menu seeds table A with the seed of the last map on the page (after the menu's sorting), then rolls 33 times: you are then at roll 33. Every frame where a monster may appear, the pre-emptive strike check, Zoom in a dungeon (+29), Whistle… move the sequence on.
- At the end of the battle, for each group of monsters defeated: one roll for the rare item, then one for the common item only if the rare one did not drop. Then one more pass per living member carrying the book “Thief's Theory” in their pocket (automatic steal), with N × 100 / their vocation level.
- A 1/N item drops if the roll r (0 to 32,767) satisfies N × (r − 1) < 32,767: for 1/256, r ≤ 128.
- The roll number where the drop happens depends on everything you do after the menu: follow a written method (TKG gives the map, the area and the positions), or an emulator's counter. The positions in TKG's guides are those this page calculates.
