Monsters and bosses
Each monster can drop a common and a rare item (rate “1/8” = 1 chance in 8). 100%: a boss you fight only once. Grotto and legacy bosses never drop those two items: you can only steal them (Thief's Half-inch); after the battle they give their own loot (tables below). The steal rate shown is the item's rate; Half-inch multiplies it: ×2 at 51 deftness or less, up to ×6 at 999, another ×2 with the Honour among thieves medal, 50% at most (Battle). The full monster list, with cards, is in the Monsters tab.

Legacy boss loot, by level Read in the code
How it works: Monster drops
The essentials
- Each group of identical monsters gets one chance to drop an item, whether you beat one or eight: the rare item first, otherwise the common one.
- To get more: the “Thief's Theory” in a pocket (the rate nearly doubles at level 99), Itemised Kill, or the thief's Half-Inch.
- Grotto and legacy bosses have their own loot; their two monster items can only be stolen.
Every monster has two items: a common one and a rare one, each with its own rate. The game stores a code from 0 to 7, converted by a table in its code:
| Code | Chance |
|---|---|
| 0 | 100% (bosses only) |
| 1 | 1/8 |
| 2 | 1/16 |
| 3 | 1/32 |
| 4 | 1/64 |
| 5 | 1/128 |
| 6 | 1/256 |
| 7 | never |
How the game rolls the loot at the end of a battle:
- One roll per group of identical monsters, whether you beat one or eight.
- The rare item is tried first; if it does not drop, the common one. So one item at most per group, and 8 at most per battle.
- Thief's Theory: every character carrying this scroll (alive at the end, and alive for at least half of the turns) gets another roll, at 1 in N × 100 ÷ their vocation level. At level 99 that is almost the same chance: the rate roughly doubles.
- Itemised Kill (thief's coup de grâce): the target group's common item is guaranteed (1 in 2 against a treasure map boss, whose 10% slot becomes certain).
- Haulellujah (team move): 10% rare item guaranteed, 40% common item guaranteed, on every group.
Grotto and legacy bosses do not drop those two items: you can only steal them (Half-inch). After the battle, grotto bosses have three loot slots (a new treasure map at 100%, then two pieces of gear); legacy bosses have three slots per level bracket, with orbs and the maps of other legacy bosses.
